Great event don’t just happen – they need a lot of good people to come together and take their part in many different ways.
We want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to:
We are really looking forward to seeing you all next Sunday the 9th of July.
Our website www.wyvern10K.co.uk has been updated with all the latest information about the event day – please take some time to look through it. In the meantime this post presents the edited highlights – the most important bits you need to know.
Generously sponsoring us for another year are QualitySolicitors Knight Polson. They have sent us the following item which provides some excellent advice for everyone.
A law lecturer we once knew was very fond of saying that the easiest way to become a criminal was to get into a motor car. It’s certainly true that the rules and regulations about everything from road signs to tyre tread depth seem endless, and it’s very easy to break them without knowing. Here’s a guide to some of the more serious pitfalls.
Nobody likes them, and almost everybody has been caught by one sometime – but they are very difficult to fight in court. The time to worry is when you collect several endorsements, because if you “tot up” twelve points on your licence you will be disqualified – unless that is, you can convince a court that you will suffer “exceptional hardship” from loss of your licence. It’s not enough to show that you will lose your job, though, you usually have to show that others will suffer too – again we would recommend that you seek legal advice. If you are successful in keeping your licence, you have to then drive very carefully until the points come off!
This is one where you have to watch the paper work. If you think you have insurance but in fact you haven’t, you are still committing an offence that will earn you six points on your licence. If your bank account is bumping along the bottom, and your premiums are paid by direct debit, make sure the monthly payment has gone out. If it hasn’t, your policy may be cancelled before you know about it.
We Can Help
Our Criminal Defence Team are able to advise on all these issues – unfortunately you will only get Legal Aid in court for the most serious offences. (Drink Driving cases will only qualify for Legal Aid if there is a good legal or scientific argument to be made, or if your blood/breath alcohol reading is very high). We can advise you whether you will be eligible for Legal Aid. If you are not eligible, we can advise you on a fixed fee so that you can decide whether you want to defend the case on a paying basis. Call us if you have a question.
And finally, one golden rule
If you were in the driver’s seat, don’t try and convince the police that it was someone else. You will convert a simple speeding offence into Perverting the Course of Justice, which almost always leads to prison!
QualitySolicitors Knight Polson are proud sponsors of the Wyvern 10K. If you need friendly, expert legal advice we would be delighted to hear from you.

We are down to our last 200 places.
If you or your mates haven't entered yet - best not delay. We suspect that we will sell out well before the end of June for the second year in a row - which will be fantastic!
ANNOUNCING OUR CHARITY FOR THIS YEAR
THE DWARF SPORTS ASSOCIATION – South Central Region
One of the main aims of the Wyvern 10K is to support the concept of Sport for All. - enabling all members of the community to take part and enjoy physical activities. Last year we chose the Multi Sports Club as our event charity – promoting sport for young people with learning difficulties.
This year we are delighted to announce that we are supporting the Dwarf Sports Association, South Central Region with which Wyvern College has a strong connection.
The Dwarf Sports Association Mission Statement is to make regular sporting opportunity accessible and enjoyable to anyone and everyone of restricted growth in the United Kingdom, regardless of their race, colour, ethnic origin, gender, location, sporting ability or financial support. They empower people to go on to enjoy all kinds of sport, in which they can compete equally and should they wish to go further they guide them on to the correct pathway to world class performance within the National Governing Bodies of Sport as two of our most successful Paralympians, Ellie Simmonds and Matt Whorwood have done.
DSAuk is a National charity split into regions of which ours is the South Central Region. Each region provides a percentage of the sponsorship raised locally to the central fund to the benefit of all the members.
The South Central Region organises regular sporting activities' including; badminton, swimming, athletics and a number of social gatherings to encourage all of the members to share their experiences and make new friends. The South central region have also been meeting every 6 weeks at Wyvern College where the group enjoy a range of team sports including basketball, football and Dodgeball (a firm favourite) and also learn new athletic events in a safe environment. The opportunities that are provided by these sporting sessions gives all members new levels of confidence in taking part in sports.
We hope that the opportunity to have the support of the Wyvern 10K will be great for the DSAuk. A recent feature about how Comic Relief funding had helped DSAuk, on South Today, was very well received and as a direct result the swimming sessions have already increased in size adding another 3 swimmers. If we can contribute to that publicity and promote the activities that are provided by the DSA Charity, more local, short stature athletes can benefit from the opportunities that current members enjoy.
Please help us raise funds for this wonderful cause by entering our race and encouraging your friends and family to do likewise. You can also make additional donations on the entry pages.

We love a sense of symmetry and so our t-shirt and medal design have a very strong link, as you can see.
Our Wyvern makes a return appearance, this time on a blue enamel background and will be topped off by a red ribbon. Well, when you have a mythical beast on hand it would be a shame not to use it and it will appear on our blue t shirts as well.
They are one off designs – 2017 only - and both are included in your entry price. So don’t miss the chance to run for yours.
Throwing superstition to the winds - we are open for entry from today - Friday the 13th of January 2017.
Please tell your all your running friends and family, as we would like to see even more smiling runners this year. Help us make this our best event yet.
For information on how to enter – get over to the website www.wyvern10k.co.uk.
You’ll also get a first glimpse of our proposed 2017 T-Shirt.
Thanks to all our runners for taking part.
Well done to the Wyvern College staff and Hedge End Running Club for the event and the wonderful work of all the marshals from the club, school, our governors, Fair Oaks and Horton Heath Parish Council, Eastleigh Lions, Fair Oak Scouts, St Thomas’ church, and other generous individuals who have given up their Sunday morning to assist.
Huge thanks to all our sponsors who’s generosity makes the race possible
Special mention for the Wyvern Site Team that every year get the school ready for this event in such good time
And thanks to all the people that make the day safe and happy:
Our gratitude to the residents of Fair Oak, Horton Heath for their patience and cheers during the race.
Lastly thanks to Fair Oak Parish Council and Eastleigh Borough Council for their continued, strong support for the event
It's not understating matters to say that without sponsorship a huge number of public races would not take place in the UK every year. Sponsorship is vital in funding events and making sure that the cost of entry is kept affordable for as many runners as possible.
The Wyvern 10K is very fortunate to have had very faithful sponsors over it's five years; some have been with us from the very start and others joining us later and then returning on subsequent occasions.
So a huge thanks goes to: HP Contracts, QualitySolicitors Knight Polson, Aspire Estate Agents, Up and Running, Caterlink, Fyffes and VW Taxation Ltd.
Please click on the image to find out more about each of our sponsors and the goods and services they provide. Many of them will have representative with us on the day of the event - some are even taking the plunge and running!
Our blog will keep you up to date with all the developing details of the event
