We are delighted to announce that this year our chosen charity is the MULTI SPORTS CLUB (Charity number 1109962) that looks to encourage young people, aged between 16 and 30, who have learning and/or physical disabilities to participate in sporting activities. They hold regular activities at Crestwood Community Centre, Thornden and Wildern Schools and Southampton Alpine Centre.
They provide a range of activities throughout the year, aiming to give people a chance to try something new, and to participate in an activity outside of school or college. Whilst the emphasis is on having fun, people will also gain social skills, improve fitness, co-ordination and sports skills. As well as offering sports, there is a variety of social activities including theatre trips, bowling, quiz nights, picnics etc
When we founded the Wyvern 10K we felt that the promotion of sport throughout our community had to be at the heart of our ambitions for the event and so we are very keen to support local groups like Multi Sport Club that have Sport for All at the heart of their mission. Their website www.multisportsclub.org.uk, says:
“Want to get more active, try something new and have fun at the same time? Then come along to our friendly, enthusiastic club where you can try a range of exciting and varied activities. Why stay at home when you could be meeting new friends whilst learning a new sport. Don't worry if you think you're not going to fit in - our aim is to try and include everyone in a relaxed and supportive way. Come along and enjoy yourself”
We like to think that we can say the same for the Wyvern 10K!
This year Multi Sports Club are looking to take their ski group for an experience on snow and enter a football team in a disability league organised by the Southampton's Saints Foundation. We want to raise at least £1000 to help them in achieving these goals.
By entering the Wyvern 10K you will be playing a part in reaching that target – it will help even more if you can encourage our friends or rivals to come along too – or spread the word through sharing our social media output.
We do accept online donations when you enter and we would like to say a HUGE thanks to those of you who have we already done this - even before we announced our chosen charity. We hope you'll agree that this is a great group to be supporting.
Our blog will keep you up to date with all the developing details of the event
